Types of Computer Mouse and its use

Pointing devices have always been considered as one of the most accommodating types of input devices. Whether we using a desktop computer or a laptop computer, a touch screen tablet PC or any other computer device, we need to provide commands to our computer system by pointing out or clicking different icons on our computer screen and these commands are conveyed to our computers through these incredible pointing input devices.

Computer mouse is one of the most extravagantly utilized pointing devices. It is the need of every desktop computer. Moreover, users also want to attach this pointing device to their laptop computers as well as other touch screen devices for entering commands and necessary information. The pointer on the computer screen is controlled by moving the mouse on a flat surface. Computer mouse usually consists of two buttons and a scroll wheel to scroll the computer screen up and down. Other than pointing and clicking the icons on the screen, a mouse can also be used to carry out various functions such as selecting any object or icon on the computer screen or dragging any object from one place to another. We can connect a mouse to a computer system through a usb port. However wireless mouse are also available that do not need any physical media to connect to the computer system.

You must take a look to other important types of input devices before moving ahead.

Types of Computer Mouse

Computer Mouse is available to us in 5 different types.

1. Mechanical Mouse

Mechanical mouse is not ordinarily utilized these days. Usually; this type of mouse consists of a rotating rubber ball inside it. The pointer movement on the computer screen is controlled by this rotating ball at the bottom of this mouse. Though based on oldest technology, the mechanical mouse is still utilized by many desktop computer users.

2. Wireless Mouse

It is also known as a "cordless mouse". A wireless mouse does not need any kind of physical connection for entering commands and instructions into the computer system. This type of mouse uses wireless technology such as radio waves or infrared light waves to connect to the computer system.

3. Air Mouse

An air mouse has a completely different working strategy in comparison with an optical mouse and wireless mouse. Usually we control the movement of a pointer on the computer screen by moving a mouse on the flat surface. As far as we talk about air mouse, it is a motion sensitive device i.e. we need to move it in air by holding it in our hand to control the pointer movement on the screen of a computer system.

4. Touch Mouse

It is a touch sensitive device that can detect touch gestures. Touch mouse that is based on the latest technology can also detect the movement of mouse as well as the clicks and scroll operations.

5. Optical Mouse

Working of an optical mouse is totally different from that of the mechanical mouse. Mechanical mouse is one of the types of computer mouse that cannot operate properly if the ball at its bottom is not moved properly when the mouse is moved on the flat surface. However; optical mouse doesn't need any rotating ball to control the pointer movement. Instead; an optical mouse uses a particular device that emits light to detect the movement.
